Perspective drawing is a technique to create the linear illusion of depth. As objects get further away from the viewer they appear to decrease in size at a constant rate. it is used by many artists to create a real life feel in the piece
Rules of perspective
- The farther an object is from the drawing plane, the smaller its perspective image in the drawing plane.
- Lines that are mutually parallel and parallel to the drawing plane are depicted as parallel.
- Mutually parallel lines that are not parallel to the drawing plane are depicted as intersecting lines. The intersection point is called the vanishing point.

Two Point Perspective
We were asked to create two point perspective drawings of cityscapes creating realistic looking pieces of art contributing to our knowledge of the subject. However I took on this challenge a little differently to others by instead of doing a street view I tried to integrate two point perspective into a floating island scene inspired by artwork from a small medieval town in France called Belves. At the start it was a little bit difficult but the more I added the more confident I felt that the final outcome would look good. And it definitely did in my opinion. Looking back at it I would have started by doing just a rough sketch of the general shape before adding more detail as this would have allowed me to better visualise my work and what I would have done next. Overall I am pleased with my final project and believe I shoed good progress throughout the task.
